While much of Rana’s work engages a language of abstraction, she has turned to figuration at key moments to explore new processes (as with Brown Mama) and themes. Distancing emerged from the global pandemic. Three headless frontal torsos positioned on a wooden base are fractured vertically down the center, an apt reflection on the disconnection many felt from their bodies and each other during a challenging time. Complete, by contrast, positions a single unified ceramic torso onto the corner of a wooden base, facilitating dialogue between the two mediums.
