Rana’s work requires proficiency with power tools, technical gear and equipment, and intense upper body strength. While her final forms evoke beauty and often have delicate features, the underlying danger of these processes is intrinsic to her work. While Rana has noted that physical strength is of value in her cultural community (for instance, a point of pride for her grandmother was how many water pots she could hold), her position as a woman working with untreated wood on large-scale sculpture remains highly unusual. The images below offer a glimpse of the artist at work.
